Your World Cup Team Got Eliminated. Here's How to Pick a New One

Published July 7, 2026 · OutfitGen Team

The Round of 16 was brutal for the biggest names in the tournament. All three co-hosts went out: Canada lost to Morocco, Mexico lost to England, and the USA lost to Belgium. Brazil went out to Norway, Germany went out on penalties to Paraguay, and Portugal's tournament ended against Spain. If your team was one of these, this is how adopting a new one works, how the eight quarterfinalists actually finished, and how to try on any team's colors in a photo of yourself.

Updated July 27, 2026. The tournament is over. Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium. This post was written between the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals; the results below are now final, and the jersey try-on works the same way for any team, whenever you read this.

zerland went out in the quarterfinals. 3. Try the colors on first. Upload a photo and generate yourself in a couple of teams' jerseys with OutfitGen's jersey swap before you commit to one. 4. An adopted team outlives one tournament. The side you pick this cycle is the one you will already be attached to at the next World Cup.

How the last eight finished

Spain: champions. They edged Portugal 1-0 on a stoppage-time winner, beat Belgium in the quarterfinals and France 2-0 in the semifinal, then won the final 1-0 after extra time for their second world title.

Argentina: runners-up. The defending champions beat Egypt 3-2, got past Switzerland, and edged England 2-1 in the semifinal before falling in extra time.

France: semifinals. Through on a tense penalty win over Paraguay, led by Kylian Mbappé, then a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Morocco before Spain ended the run.

England: semifinals. Five goals in their Round of 16 win over Mexico, past Norway in the quarterfinals, then a 2-1 loss to Argentina.

Morocco: quarterfinals. One of the stories of the knockout rounds. A 3-0 win over co-host Canada sent the Atlas Lions into a heavyweight quarterfinal against France.

Norway: quarterfinals. Their first ever, on the back of an Erling Haaland brace in the win over Brazil. If you like an underdog run, this was the one.

Belgium: quarterfinals. Knocked out host-nation USA 4-1, then ran into the eventual champions.

Switzerland: quarterfinals. Beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes, then pushed Argentina before going out.

Any of these is a reasonable adopt. A team you picked for one knockout run is the team you will already care about when the next tournament starts.

Try the jersey before you pick

This is the part that's actually fun: instead of just deciding on a team in the abstract, upload a photo of yourself and generate a couple of options first. An AI clothes changer swaps the jersey in a photo of you while keeping your face, pose, and background exactly the same, so you can see how Morocco's red, Norway's colors, or Argentina's stripes actually look on you before you commit to anyone.

Upload one photo, then run it through prompts for two or three teams, such as "Morocco national team jersey, red with green trim, keep my face and pose exactly the same" or "Norway national team jersey, red with white and blue trim, keep my face and pose exactly the same", and compare. It takes about 20 seconds per generation and the first three are free, no account needed. Full copy-paste prompts for every team are in our jersey try-on guide.

Still want to rep your old team

Adopting a new team for the knockouts doesn't mean giving up on the one that got you this far. Plenty of fans wore their eliminated team's colors right through the final as a mark of the run, not a prediction of the winner. If that's you, we cover it in our guide to trying on a jersey when the real one is sold out. The same AI tool works the same way for a team that's already out.

FAQ

Which teams reached the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals?

Eight: Argentina, France, England, Spain, Morocco, Norway, Belgium, and Switzerland. Spain went on to win the final 1-0 over Argentina after extra time on July 19. All three co-host nations (USA, Mexico, Canada) plus Brazil, Germany, and Portugal went out in the Round of 16.

How do I pick a new team to support?

There's no wrong answer, but the picks that stick are usually based on a real connection: a player you enjoy watching, a country you have ties to, or a style of play you like. Morocco and Norway were the 2026 breakout underdog stories if that's what you're looking for, and Spain are the reigning champions if you'd rather back a winner.

Can I try on a jersey before deciding which team to support?

Yes! Upload a photo of yourself to an AI clothes changer like OutfitGen's jersey swap and describe any team's colors. You get a realistic photo of yourself in the jersey in about 20 seconds, which makes it easy to compare a couple of options before picking.

Is it disloyal to adopt a new team after mine got eliminated?

Not at all. It's one of the most common things fans do during a knockout tournament. Following a new team to the final doesn't erase support for the one that got you this far.
