How to Remove or Change a Background from Any Photo

Removing or replacing a photo background is one of the most common photo editing tasks. Product photos, profile pictures, social media content, and presentations all benefit from a clean or custom background. Here's how to do it with AI in under a minute.

Why Change a Photo Background?

There are plenty of reasons you might want a different background:

Step 1: Pick Your Photo

Choose a photo where the subject (person, product, or object) is clearly separated from the background. The AI is smart enough to handle most scenarios, but these tips help:

• Good contrast between the subject and background
• The subject isn't blending into the background
• The photo is reasonably sharp and well-lit

Step 2: Upload to the Background Changer

Step 3: Choose Your New Background

You have several options:

Use a preset. Pick from popular backgrounds like Office, Beach, City Skyline, Photo Studio, or Forest. These are one-click options that work great for most use cases.

Describe a custom background. Type in whatever you want. "A modern minimalist living room," "a sunset over the ocean," "a solid light gray background," or "a busy Tokyo street at night." The AI will generate it and place your subject in front of it.

Step 4: Download

Once the AI finishes processing (usually under 10 seconds), review the result and download it.

Tips for Best Results

• High-res photos work better. The more detail the AI has, the better it can separate the subject from the background.
• Avoid complex edges overlapping similar colors. A person wearing green standing in front of green foliage is harder to process than someone standing in front of a white wall.
• Be specific about the new background. "A professional office" is okay, but "a modern corner office with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a city skyline at golden hour" gives you something much more interesting.
• Try multiple presets. The one-click presets are fast, so try a few to see which fits your use case best.

Background Removal vs. Background Changing

These are related but different things:

• Background removal strips the background away entirely, leaving a transparent background (useful for logos, product cutouts, design assets).
• Background changing replaces the existing background with a new one (useful for social media, headshots, and creative projects).
